From October 20th to early morning on Halloween, Underscore Theatre Company is thrilled to present a re-imagined benefit production of The Rocky Horror Show that embraces the show's underground roots and deep love of science fiction movies. This production is the first in what we believe will be Chicago's newest annual Halloween tradition.
Our Rocky imagines the musical taking place as Brad and Janet fall asleep in a classic movie theater and together enter a strange, phantasmagorical world that combines the elements of the theater with the stars and creatures they have seen in the previews of their movie. The music, orchestrated by David Kornfeld, introduces a wider variety of musical styles from gospel and soul to reggae and ska into Rocky's classic songs, including "Hot Patootie," "Dammit, Janet," and "Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me."
The original Rocky Horror was performed in a non-traditional theatre space without the separating effect of a proscenium or a "fourth wall." We're bringing our production back to these roots by performing in a bar: The Underground Lounge at 952 West Newport Avenue, Chicago IL, 60657. Performances include an interactive pre-show that begins at show time.
